MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — There is a large police presence in the RV Taylor community on South Ann Street for a possible barricade situation. Police have surrounded a unit in the cul-de-sac off Ann Street.

Witnesses on the scene say they heard shots fired and shortly after, police arrived. Police told them to get across the street and to get somewhere safe.

Mobile Fire-Rescue says a 20-year-old man was shot. MFRD says he was treated for a life-threatening injury.

UPDATE (7:00 P.M.) – Police Chief Lawrence Battiste says the barricaded suspect is Johnny Vail. A second suspect was shot and transported to University Hospital. The chief says shots were fired at officers, and one officer returned fire. No officers have been injured.

The chief said Vail was involved in the 2015 Christmas shooting at the Wynnsong Theater on Schillinger Road, which is now the AMC.

UPDATE (7:15 p.m.) — Police have two suspects in custody in the barricade situation at RV Taylor. The second suspect is now being evaluated by Mobile Fire-Rescue crews. The first, a 20-year-old male, was already transported to the hospital.

Public Safety Director James Barber tells News 5 the barricade situation started when narcotics officers attempted a drug stop. He says the suspects fired at police, and an officer returned fire. Barber says they resolved the situation peacefully, first contacting the barricaded suspect’s close friends to communicate with the suspect.

Barber says no shots were fired once the suspect barricaded himself into the home on S. Ann Street. Both suspects are expected to recover.

No police were injured during the standoff.

Barber said the suspects would likely face attempted murder charges.
